The Faculty of Education, Arts and Social Sciences leadership team are committed to working towards excellence in the provision of Vocational Educational Training (VET) and Higher Education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people.
The Faculty delivers both Higher Education (HE) and Vocational Education Training (VET) courses.
Higher Education courses are delivered through the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education (ACIKE) partnership with Charles Darwin University. Programs include enabling programs specifically designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to achieve success in tertiary education, Indigenous Teacher Education programs and a suite of Indigenous Knowledge’s programs designed to prepare graduates to pursue further study or be employed across the public and private sectors for their specialist skills and knowledge in professional and academic areas of:
Programs are delivered in flexible learning modes on site at Batchelor campus or Desert People Centre (DPC) Alice Springs and supported by online learning
Vocational Educational Training programs are designed to engage and enable clients to pursue their aspirations for engagement, employment, career development and further study through a suite of courses aligned to community and Industry need and opportunity.
The faculty specialises in the delivery of Foundation, Language, Literacy and Numeracy programs which strengthens skills and self-confidence through experiential and contextualised community and industry based programs. Industry based programs include Community Services with a strong focus on Education Support and Early Childhood Industries and Creative Industries through Media and Visual Arts.
VET courses are contextualised to the workplace with learning experiences that develop knowledge and skills to meet the needs of clients, industry and the community. Many programs are delivered through a “learning at work” approach whereby clients are able to live and study within their communities.
A key faculty direction In 2013 is to develop strong relationships and collaborative partnerships to strengthen delivery in Northern Territory communities and strengthen engagement with tertiary programs.
