Batchelor Institute is the only First Nations dual sector tertiary education provider in Australia. The Institute’s function is to provide tertiary education relevant to the needs of indigenous people. It is governed under the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education Act. Strategic direction and oversight are provided by the Institute’s Council, which is supported by various committees including the Finance, Audit & Risk Management Committee (FARMC).
We are currently seeking Expressions of Interest from qualified and experienced professionals wishing to give back to the community through sitting as an external member of FARMC.
FARMC’s role is “to provide strategic advice to the Chief Executive Officer and Council on emerging strategic risks, as well as assisting the Chief Executive Officer and Council ensuring that the Institute is financially viable and operates efficiently and effectively in providing tertiary education and training programs and courses to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples”.
The Committee meets a minimum of four times per year, but additional meetings may be required from time to time. Membership is normally for a 3-year term. This position is usually honorary, although approved expenses may be reimbursed and sitting fees can be requested.
Interested persons should have qualifications, expertise and experience in matters of audit, risk, compliance and either legal or accounting experience. First Nations applicants would be highly regarded. The following experience would be advantageous:
• Finance & Audit
• Risk Management
• Tertiary Education
• Working with First Nations Peoples and organisations.
