Message from the a/CEO | Newsletter July 2021

Welcome to the latest issue of our staff newsletter, as we enter the second half of 2021.

Batchelor Institute has had a very eventful couple of months, and I want to thank everyone for the important and meaningful contributions you have all made.

The graduation ceremony is June was very special for our graduands, many of whom travelled to Batchelor campus for the occasion from their remote communities. There was a lot of work that went into the success of this event, and I want to thank everyone who played a part to bring the ceremony to fruition.

We also held graduations on Country, in Maningrida and Garthalala recently. At both events, the communities acknowledged our lecturers for the supportive and powerful contributions they make to help students complete their courses.

All of our lecturers play a pivotal role in our students’ success, and I want to recognise and thank all of you.

I also want to highlight the exceptional work from our teams, to respond to the Darwin and Alice Springs lockdowns due to COVID-19. The care and support our staff provided to our students who were staying on Batchelor campus, was important for their wellbeing. There were a lot of logistics to to travel these students’ home, and everyone did a great job.

Unfortunately, the lockdown and current restrictions resulted in our NAIDOC Week and special Seminar Series events being put on hold, but again, I want to thank everyone who contributed to creating and planning the program. We will be in contact once we can make a new plan to safely celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Please remember the last day to vote for the staff representative on Council is tomorrow (Friday 9 July), and also nominations for a student representative on Council close next Friday 16 July.
