Message from the Director, May 2022

Welcome to the latest edition of our internal newsletter, which I hope you will find to be an interesting and informative look at what staff and students have been up to in the past few weeks.

You may have noted my recent email updating staff about the ICAC review, after the ELAT group and I recently met with the ICAC Commissioner for an update. The meeting reaffirmed that the BIITE Review Report will focus on the three areas of policy, management and culture. Council, the ELAT group and I look forward to receiving the final report in the coming weeks and to working with you all to implement the recommendations.

On a similar note, I would like to draw your attention to ICAC’s new mandatory reporting directions in accordance with the ICAC Act of 2017, which apply to all public bodies and all public officers as identified in the Act. Please take a moment to read the updated information and new directions highlighted in the newsletter below. ICAC has also provided an informative video that helps to explain the role of ICAC and the new reporting directions.

I would also like to take this chance to congratulate all staff and students involved in the recent graduation ceremony at the Darwin Correctional Centre. It was by all accounts a very successful event with a great cohort of graduates receiving their certificates, before enjoying a dance performance and a delicious morning tea. Graduation will soon take place at our Batchelor campus as well, and I’m sure all staff in Darwin and Batchelor will be looking forward to attending on Thursday, 2 June 2022.

Since the last newsletter I have twice visited our Desert Peoples Centre campus, along with other senior management, as the campus has been experiencing a number of challenges in recent times including damage from several break-ins. I’m pleased we had some productive meetings and discussions with staff in Alice Springs and we will keep working toward solutions as a team.

In other exciting news, we have been undergoing a rigorous process in recent weeks to interview candidates for the position of CEO, and I look forward to being able to share more on that very soon.
