Palmerston Senior College Graduation – 5th June 2013

16 senior secondary students and one staff member from Palmerston Senior College graduated with Conservation and Land Management Certificates on Wednesday 5 June. The courses are delivered as part of the VET in Schools (VETiS) program delivered by Batchelor Institute in 2012 and 2013.

The students have undertaken nursery and conservation work at the Greening Australia Nursery at Berrimah along with activities at Howard Springs Nature Reserve and Mitchell Creek in Palmerston. Subjects covered included workplace health and safety, natural area restoration, planting trees and animal recognition, to name a few. The students have gained valuable foundation skills for transition into the workplace and have industry specific skills if they wish to seek employment in the horticulture and land management industries.

A number of students also undertook structured work placements to get a full grasp of working in the field. Some students completed the course for self interest and to use their new skills around their community or home for an environmentally positive approach.
Batchelor Institute congratulates all graduands.
