In the first semester of this year, the (CUA31015) Certificate III in Screen and Media was delivered in Alice Springs at the Desert Peoples Centre (DPC) Campus.

It was the first time in many years the course has been delivered away from the Batchelor Campus.

The course was delivered to students from two media organisations, NG Media (Ngaanyatjarra Media) and CAAMA (The Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association).

A working radio studio is required for the course delivery and CAAMA, in Alice Springs, very kindly provided use of a studio for training, and also airtime in their main broadcast studio for students to deliver their radio shows for assessment.

Thanks go out to Karl Hampton CEO, Gilmore Johnson Head of radio, and other CAAMA staff for their support and assistance.

Students studying Certificate III in Screen and Media did very well. Nine students completed the course and seven were able to attend the Batchelor Institute graduation ceremony last week.

As part of the formalities of the graduation ceremony Lorena Walker from CAAMA delivered the Student Response on behalf of all students.

Three students from NG Media jointly shared the CAAMA Award “In recognition of outstanding achievement in Broadcasting or Media studies”. They were Cynthia Burke from Warakurna, Roma Butler from Wingellina (Irrunytju) and Jennifer Connelly from Jameson (Mantamaru)

This award also encourages further studies within the media field.
