COURSE OUTLINE

  • HLT20113Cert II in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care

    During this course students are given theoretical knowledge and an opportunity to practice clinical skills in our model clinic.

    This course is comprised of 10 units – 7 core and 3 electives

    This qualification reflects the role of workers who undertake a range of tasks under direct supervision to support the provision of primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and communities. Such work will be performed as part of a health clinic, centre or service.

    The Community Service where the work placement will be undertaken must agree to support the student and community council support is required if relevant.

    A numeracy and literacy assessment is also completed at the beginning of the course to ensure adequate support of the student is achieved. Students may be advised to co–enrol in a relevant certificate.

  • HLT40213Cert IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice)

    During this course students are given theoretical knowledge and an opportunity to practice clinical skills in our model clinic.

    This course is comprised of 21 units – 14 core and 7 electives – and runs between 18 to 24 months.

    There are nine 2 week workshops, over the duration of the course, these are held on campus and attendance is compulsory.  The clinical component of this course requires on-going clinical placement, with the completion of 900 clinical hours. Students need to have negotiated at least 20 hours per week of clinical supervision for the duration of the course, in their community clinic prior to acceptance into the course.

    On successful completion of the course National registration as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner can be sought through the Australian Health Practitioners Registering Authority.

  • HLT40113Cert IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care

    This is a two year course with 21 units of competency. 14 Core units and 7 electives.

    This qualification reflects the role of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people working to provide a range of non-clinical primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and communities, including specific health care programs. These workers can be expected to flexibly assume a variety of job roles and undertake a broad range of tasks either individually or as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

  • HLT50213 Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice)

    This course will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to work unsupervised, use your own initiative and achieve deadlines in health related disciplines.

    The course is comprised of 15 units – 7 core and 8 electives – and runs over 24 months.

    WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

    This course is available to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners attached to a clinical position who have been recognised as competent against the core units from Certificate IV Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice).
