Election Candidates for Staff Representative on Council

Nominations have closed for the election of a full-time staff member for the Batchelor Institute Council under section 13(1).

Nominations were received for three staff members and two of these staff members have accepted their nominations. We congratulate all nominees.

The candidates who are progressing to the election stage include:

Andrew is the Campus Manager at the Desert People’s Centre (DPC) based in Alice Springs.

Prior to his role with Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE), Andrew had an extensive career in the Hospitality & Tourism Industry most recently as Hotel General Manager, Ayers Rock Resort managed by Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia (VITA) where he trained, mentored, and supported the career development of hundreds of Hospitality & Horticulture Trainees through the National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA).

Andrew is a high energy and motivational leader who is a strong advocate for individual empowerment, growth, and positive change. He fosters values-based work cultures and is extremely passionate about service delivery.

Janine Oldfield has been working at Batchelor since 2000, first as a VET project manager, a VET lecturer in education and then a higher education lecturer. She has worked on campus at Alice Springs, Batchelor and CDU Campus and remote. In 2012 she briefly left to do a PhD at Melbourne University. She returned to Batchelor Alice Springs and then CDU Darwin Campus lecturing and researching in higher education and was also assigned to the Teacher and Learning and Academic Board Committees for the Institute. She retired from these posts, became President of ATESOL NT (and is now Vice-President) and the Batchelor representative on the National Council for NTEU.

Janine is keen to ensure workplace voices for social justice are heard on council and welcomes input from all staff that will help ensure democratic governance for the Institute.

Voter Eligibility

The composition of Council under the Batchelor Institute Act states the Council consists of:
11(1) (d) One person from the full-time staff (except the Director or Deputy Director):
(j) elected by the full-time staff after a request has been made under section 13(1)

Voting is now open for a two-week period

How to submit your vote

  • Only full-time staff members can participate in the voting process
  • Voting period is Monday 28 June to close of business Friday 09 July 2021
  • Please vote using the online voting form
  • Voting is treated as confidential by the elections team. (Voter names are recorded for the sole purpose of ensuring votes are cast only by full time staff members.)
  • Staff will be notified of the elected member by COB Wednesday 21 July 2021.
