Batchelor Institute is pleased to announce renewed leadership under interim Chief Executive Officer Mr David Cusack.
Mr Cusack, who has Gurindji, Warlpiri and Anmatyerre heritage, is a highly experienced educator and leader in the sector. He stepped into the role of CEO from his position as Deputy CEO in December 2022, following the resignation of former CEO Mr Leon Yeatman.
Mr Cusack was previously Batchelor Institute’s Director of Student Experience, and also brings a wealth of knowledge from his experience as Director of Curtin University’s Centre for Aboriginal Studies and his prior work in the private and public education sectors.
Chair of the Batchelor Institute Council, Ms Patricia Anderson AO, expressed her support for Mr Cusack’s experience and outlook in both education and governance.
“The Batchelor Institute Council is delighted to have David Cusack take the helm as CEO. We anticipate strong forward steps under this renewed leadership, while in parallel we undertake recruitment for a permanent appointment to the position,” Ms Anderson said.
Mr Cusack supports a student-centred approach to education and aims to bring education to the fore at the Institute, which delivers vocational training in Batchelor, Alice Springs, and remote locations in the Northern Territory, as well as offering postgraduate and research opportunities.
“Education must be at the forefront of our work; Batchelor Institute must have a first-class curriculum,” Mr Cusack said.
Batchelor Institute is the only First Nations dual-sector tertiary education provider in Australia. The Institute aims to be the First Nations institution of choice, where truth, knowledge and wisdom meet.
Mr Cusack will remain in the role of CEO over the coming months while the Institute undertakes a formal recruitment process in line with its policies and procedures for a permanent appointment to the CEO position.
