Liberation through education – our way.
Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education is Australia’s only Indigenous dual-sector tertiary provider. On Kungarakan and Warai Country at Batchelor and Arrernte Country at Mparntwe (Alice Springs), and through our remote learning centres across the Northern Territory, we deliver transformative Vocational Education and Training (VET) and higher education.
Our Both Ways philosophy places Indigenous Australian knowledges, cultures and voices at the centre of every course. You will learn in a culturally safe environment that respects your identity, strengthens your connection to Country and family, and prepares you for the future you choose.
Flexible study options mean you can stay strong in your community. Most courses combine short on-campus workshops (one to three weeks) with supported study from home or in your own community.

Why I chose Batchelor - Sylvia Tabua
Study on Country – your way
At Batchelor Institute we know that strong connections to Country, family and community are the foundation of success. That’s why our courses are built around flexible study options that let you learn without having to leave your home community for long periods.
Our Both Ways approach means you study in a culturally safe environment where Indigenous Australian knowledges, languages and perspectives are valued equally alongside Western academic skills. You stay grounded in your culture while gaining the qualifications that open doors to the future you choose.
Where you learn
Batchelor offers short blocks of study on-campus combined with study at home. This allows you to keep strong links with your communities and study some parts of your course in your community so that do not have to leave your home community for months at a time for study.
Some students leave their communities for one to three weeks workshops or classes at the Institute’s campuses in Batchelor or at Annexes in Darwin, Nhulunbuy, Katherine and Tennant Creek. Some workshops are also held in other communities.
