Batchelor Institute would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sovereign people of the lands on which our campuses are located. As we share our knowledge, teaching and learning and engage in research practices within this Institution and/or conduct business with a variety of external agencies and organisations, we must always pay respect to the sovereign status of our hosts. May their Ancestors always be remembered and honoured, their Elders listened to and respected, all members treated with dignity and fairness — in the present and well into the future.

Entry requirements
Students must:
  • Identify as Indigenous Australians ; and
  • be a minimum of 17 years old; and
  • have completed year 10 minimum or equivalent work experience or other study 
Citizen Requirements:
For a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) students must meet the following citizenship requirements: 
  • An Australian citizen;
  • A New Zealand citizen;
  • A permanent visa holder; or
  • A Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV) holder studying the entire course in Australia. 
Course Outline

This course has been designed to provide fundamental skills addressing language, literacy, numeracy and digital development. This course will provide students with the fundamental skills required to be successful in the undergraduate degree of choice.

All units in this course teach fundamental principles and practices students can utilise in everyday life, as well as in their future academic endeavours.

Students will be able to apply their knowledge and skills in ways that demonstrate readiness for further study, including but not limited to:

  • Planning, organising, and completing learning tasks independently and collaboratively.
  • Applying academic skills to interpret information, construct arguments, and complete assessments.
  • Using digital tools to support learning, research, and communication.
  • Applying numeracy and financial literacy skills to real world and study related contexts.
  • Demonstrating cultural capability, ethical practice, and accountability to community in learning environments.

 

Course Requirements

Students must complete 40 credit points comprised of four (4) core units points across 4 core units and achieve 50% or above in all units to complete the course.

  • EO001 Foundations of Academic Communication, Research and Digital Learning
  • EO002 Truth-telling: Country, Culture & Critical Histories
  • EO003 Humanities: An Indigenous Worldview
  • EO004 Applied Financial Literacy and Mathematical Foundations
Course Fees

This is a FEE-FREE Uni Ready course Home - Fee-Free Uni Ready and students are exempt from paying student fees

Resources

It is highly encouraged that students have a laptop and sufficient access to the internet at home to complete assessments.

Abstudy

This course has been approved by Abstudy.

Students are encouraged to apply to ABSTUDY once they have enrolled at Batchelor Institute.  To do this they will use their Enrolment & Fees Invoice issued by the Institute to attach to their Application for ABSTUDY for submission to Services Australia.

Educational and Student Support

Students will have the opportunity to access additional tutoring support through the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme. Students are entitled to up to two hours, per unit, per week of additional tutoring support outside of their regular class contact hours. To find out more about this, please review the ITAS page on the Batchelor Institute website or contact the Batchelor Institute Student Administration team. 

Students who have been identified as needing extra support services besides those already identified will have the extra support identified within their individual training plan and the support services will be arranged accordingly.
