Acknowledgement of country

Batchelor Institute would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sovereign people of the lands on which our campuses are located. As we share our knowledge, teaching and learning and engage in research practices within this Institution and/or conduct business with a variety of external agencies and organisations, we must always pay respect to the sovereign status of our hosts. May their Ancestors always be remembered and honoured, their Elders listened to and respected, all members treated with dignity and fairness — in the present and well into the future.

We also acknowledge and pay respect to the knowledge embedded forever with our hosts, custodianship of country and the binding relationship they have with the land. Batchelor Institute extends this acknowledgment and expression of respect to all sovereign custodians — past, present and emerging. By expressing Acknowledgement of Country we encourage all to extend and practice respect to all First Nations people wherever their lands are located.

Batchelor Institute Recognised for 15 Years of Shaping the Northern Territory’s Built Environment
3 minute read

Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (RTO 0383), located on Kungarakan and Warai Country, was proudly recognised by Master Builders NT at their Milestone Member Recognition Dinner on 30 March 2026. The special evening celebrated our valued 15-year membership and ongoing contribution to the Northern Territory’s building and construction industry.

The prestigious event honoured members who have reached significant milestones, acknowledging Batchelor Institute’s commitment, dedication and role in strengthening the Territory’s built environment through high-quality vocational education and training.

Supporting the next generation of Indigenous builders

For 15 years, Batchelor Institute has worked closely with the construction industry to deliver practical, culturally grounded training that equips Indigenous Australians with the skills and qualifications needed for rewarding careers in building, carpentry, construction management and related trades. Our VET programs are built on the “Both Ways” philosophy, blending Western technical standards with Indigenous knowledge, values and ways of working, ensuring graduates are not only job-ready but also strong in their cultural identity.

This recognition highlights the impact of our partnerships with industry bodies like Master Builders NT and the many communities we serve across the Top End, Big Rivers and Central Australia (including Arrernte Country). It reflects the success of our students, lecturers and stakeholders who continue to contribute to safe, sustainable and culturally appropriate development across the Northern Territory.

A milestone worth celebrating

Master Builders NT’s acknowledgement reinforces the importance of long-term collaboration between tertiary education providers and industry. It also underscores Batchelor Institute’s role in addressing workforce needs while privileging Indigenous Australians as knowledge holders in every educational transaction.

We thank Master Builders NT for this honour and for their continued support of our students and programs. This milestone strengthens our shared commitment to growing a skilled, culturally confident construction workforce that will shape the Territory for generations to come.
